He was a private in the 12\/13 Consolidated Regiment of the Louisiana Militia.<a name=\"_ednref3\"><\/a>[iii]<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong>On 22 August 1820 Charles married Harriet Knight, daughter of John Knight.<a name=\"_ednref4\"><\/a>[iv],<a name=\"_ednref5\"><\/a>[v]They had seven children: John Brumfield, Margaret Sisley (Brumfield) Bradshaw, Lucy (Brumfield) Sandidge, Thomas Meredith Brumfield, George Davis Brumfield, Oscar Hope Brumfield and Jesse Marion Brumfield.<a name=\"_ednref6\"><\/a>[vi]<\/p>\n<p>Charles purchased land in Yazoo County, Mississippi. In February 1832 he bought 79.84 acres which included a section of Indian Creek<a name=\"_ednref7\"><\/a>[vii], <a name=\"_ednref8\"><\/a>[viii]and in September 1835 he bought another 80.03 acres which were located adjacent to his original land and south west of the town of Dover.<a name=\"_ednref9\"><\/a>[ix], <a name=\"_ednref10\"><\/a>[x]The 1850 US Census shows Charles, Harriet and children living in the same county.<a name=\"_ednref11\"><\/a>[xi]In 1860 Charles was shown as a planter in Yazoo County with sons, Thomas and George, as overseers and sons, Oscar and Jesse, still at home.<a name=\"_ednref12\"><\/a>[xii]<\/p>\n<p>Oldest son, John Brumfield was Chancery Clerk in Yazoo County in 1859, Clerk of the Probate Court in 1860 and Circuit Clerk 1863 \u2013 1864.<a name=\"_ednref13\"><\/a>[xiii]<\/p>\n<p>All five sons of Charles and Harriet served during the Civil War. John Brumfield enlisted 15 March 1862 in Yazoo City, Mississippi as a Sergeant in Company E, 30 Regiment of the Mississippi Infantry. He became a 2nd Lieutenant on 25 August 1862. However, he had to resign in November 1862 due to illness. He was unfit for duty.<a name=\"_ednref14\"><\/a>[xiv]Thomas Meredith Brumfield enlisted 4 February 1862 as a private in the 1<sup>st<\/sup>Mississippi Light Artillery. He was discharged 4 May 1865.<a name=\"_ednref15\"><\/a>[xv]His brother, Oscar enlisted on the same day. Oscar Hope Brumfield was a sergeant in Company E of the 46<sup>th<\/sup>Regiment of the Mississippi Infantry during the Civil War. He enlisted 4 February 1862 and was discharged 4 May 1865.<a name=\"_ednref16\"><\/a>[xvi],<a name=\"_ednref17\"><\/a>[xvii]George Davis Brumfield \u201cserved as Pvt. Co. E 38th MS Cav. and later as Pvt. Co B 1st MS Lt Art (CSA)&#8221;<a name=\"_ednref18\"><\/a>[xviii]Their youngest brother, Jesse Marion Brumfield was a private in Company K, 10<sup>th<\/sup>Regiment of the Mississippi Infantry.
