Pennsylvania’s capital, Philadelphia, was the site of the first and second Continental Congresses in 1774 and 1775, the latter of which produced the Declaration of Independence, sparking the American Revolution. After the war, Pennsylvania became the second state, after Delaware, to ratify the U.S. Constitution. In the American Civil War (1861-1865), Pennsylvania was the site of the Battle of Gettysburg, in which Union General George Meade defeated Confederate General Robert E. Lee, bringing an end to the Confederacy’s Northern invasion, as well as Lincoln’s famous Gettysburg Address. Tourists are drawn to Pennsylvania by its monuments to America’s revolutionary history, including Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell. Famous Pennsylvanians include patriot and inventor Benjamin Franklin, frontiersman Daniel Boone, painter Mary Cassatt, inventor Robert Fulton and comedian Bill Cosby.

A few of my Blog Posts about Pennsylvania Research:

Adams County Historical Society

Book: Abstracts of York Co., PA Wills by Wright

Lehigh Valley Heritage Museum

Rittersville, PA

Rittersville, PA Revisited

Rittersville Cemetery, PA

Snyder County Historical Society

York County Heritage Trust

Book: Land Records of York Co., PA by Brewer

Book: Early German Settlers of York Co., PA by Dull

Historic Gettysburg Home: Frederick Wolf House

Websites for Pennsylvania research:

Access Genealogy – Free Data & Links for Pennsylvania

Adams County Historical Society

Ancestor Hunt – Many links to state resources; newspapers

Ancestor Tracks – Links to tools, state & county resources & maps

County & Town Histories for Pennsylvania and Other States

Family Hart’s Cemetery Pics: Adams, York & Cumberland Cemetery

Genealogical Society of Pennsylvania

Historical Society of Pennsylvania

Lehigh County Historical Society

Pennsylvania Dept of Health

Pennsylvania Facts & Trivia

Pennsylvania Genealogy & History

Pennsylvania Online Historical Newspapers

Pennsylvania State Library

The Pennsylvania State Archives

York County Heritage Trust

Cyndi’s List for Pennsylvania

Books for Pennsylvania research:

Bittinger, Lucy F. The Germans in Colonial Times. 1986 Reprint.
