In 1850<a name=\"_ednref1\"><\/a>[i]and 1860<a name=\"_ednref2\"><\/a>[ii]he lived at home. In 1860 he owned 15 slaves.<a name=\"_ednref3\"><\/a>[iii]Like his brothers, he served during the Civil War. He served in Wingfield\u2019s Company C of the 3<sup>rd<\/sup>Regiment of the Louisiana Calvary with his brother, Jessie Alexander Brumfield, and several other family members.<a name=\"_ednref4\"><\/a>[iv]<\/p>\n<p>In 1870 he farmed his mother\u2019s land in Washington Parish. His mother was, once again, a widow. His half sisters, Charlotte Angelina (Brumfield) Brock and Courtney Rebecca (Brumfield) Tate also lived with them.<a name=\"_ednref5\"><\/a>[v]In 1880 he still lived with his mother, farming her land.<a name=\"_ednref6\"><\/a>[vi]<\/p>\n<p>John married Zadie Martin. Their sons were John D. T. Brumfield and James H. Brumfield.<a name=\"_ednref7\"><\/a>[vii]They lived in Washington Parish, Louisiana.
