Martha P. (Smith) Alford was born 25 March 1802 in South Carolina. She was the daughter of Jeremiah Smith and Joanna Dillon. On 20 December 1818, in Mississippi, she married Edwin Barksdale Alford. Martha died 8 August 1861 in Pike County, Mississippi.
