Jacob Faulkenberry b. c. 1715

Details on the life of Jacob Faulkenberry are few. He was a link in our family’s chain of generations; the son of Hendrick Jacobs Falkenberg, Jr. and the father of John Faulkenberry. He was born circa 1715 and lived in Virginia and, later, North Carolina.

The first record of Jacob in Anson County, North Carolina is dated 7 September 1751. Jacob witnessed a land deed between Andrew Hampton and Ambrose Stills.[i]Jacob had 150 acres of land on the north side of the Pee Dee River, granted to him on 3 March 1754.[ii]Land records involving his brothers Henry and Andrew can be found in the same area in the same time period.

In 1756 Anson County recorded two land transactions for Jacob. On 29 April 1756 Henry [This could be Jacob’s father or his brother.] sold Jacob 134 acres on the south side of the Pee Dee River.[iii]On 20 December 1756 Jacob sold 150 acres of land to his brother, Isaac.[iv]Soon after, on 18 January 1757, Jacob sold 125 acres on the south side of the Pee Dee River to Henry Falkenburg.[v]

On 7 September 1759 Henry Falkenberg, Senior gave land to Jacob’s son, Henry. He deeded to Jacob 134 acres on Smith Creek on the south side of the Pee Dee River and “an iron gray horse.”[i]

Jacob may have continued into South Carolina. At least two of his sons served in the Revolutionary War in South Carolina[ii]and it is likely the family was all together there. It is unknown when this frontiersman died and where he was laid to rest.
