Lyda Mearl (Brown) Pierce was born 24 December 1900 in Pike, daughter of Jasper Pascal Brown and Rose Ella (Brumfield) Brown, was born 24 December 1900. She grew up in Pike County, Mississippi.
Lyda married Arlie Pierce, son of Ed Wesley Pierce and Alice Lenoir (Brock) Pierce. They were the parents of six children: Iris Elizabeth (Pierce) Brock, Wesley (Pierce) Leissinger, Malcolm Brown Pierce, Eddie Jasper Pierce, Betty Jane Pierce and Curtis Pierce. They lived in Walthall County.
The couple usually had a house full of people. In 1920 Arlie’s sister, Wilda, who was eight years old, lived with Arlie and Lyda on their farm.[i]In 1930 Arlie’s mother, Alice, lived with them and their children.[ii]In 1940 Arlie and Lyda had four children at home: Wesley, 17; Malcolm, 12; E. J., 8 and Betty Jane 2 years old.[iii]In 1943 all four children were attending school.
